❖ appearance ❖

Vincent is a tall man who normally carries himself with a very rigid stance. His black hair is cut to about chin length and slightly disheveled, with some of it usually falling in his face. His eyes are a very light shade of brown bordering on red. For the most part, he tends to have a somber demeanor, mostly frowns and other contemplative looks. There is a definite strangeness about the look in his eyes, as if he's seen things most people have only dreamt about. Unlike his original counterpart, the experiments didn't alter his arm. Eyes aside, his outward appearance was preserved the same as before his long sleep. He prefers to wear his Turks uniform the majority of the time, consisting of the standard issue blue suit and- naturally- the gun as well.

❖ personality ❖

Vincent is enigmatic, melancholy, and reserved. Most of the time, he displays a cold, distant persona to the world, to the point of being very detached. A brooding individual, he is prone to periods of introspection and dwelling on past mistakes. Yet, he's also quite stern and highly capable of defending himself when he is stirred to. When he IS provoked enough to care about something, it's best not to stand in his way. Vincent's isolation gives him a very objective viewpoint. Underneath the imposing exterior, he's very contemplative and wise. He only speaks when he has something important to say, and remains calm until there is a real reason to fight. He maintains a stoic exterior much of the time, and does not tend to directly involve himself in other people's business without a good reason.

He always has had a slightly disturbing side to him, as his former and present occupation as a Turk indicates. The experimentation, years of nightmare, and demons have given him a pessimistic outlook. Still, Vincent maintains a more neutral sort of alignment. He may seem unsettling in some aspects, but there are still moments in which his human side shows.

In fact, he is also very passionate, and will be entirely devoted to anyone he trusts enough. He even has a subtle sense of humor (however morbid it often might seem). Generally, his actions speak for him, and he will always defend his allies. In love, Vincent becomes obsessive, but he keeps the depth of his true feelings to himself. He can be self-sacrificing, willing to give up his own happiness for a loved one.

❖ abilities and strengths ❖

Vincent has the advantage of his Turk experience, which serves him well in battle. He is an excellent marksman, able to use his guns for serious damage in battle. Due to Hojo's experimentation, Vincent has the ability to take on the forms of four different monsters, which can often aid him in battle. The experiments also modified him to have some supernatural enhancements- notable in his agility and endurance. His senses have also been heightened, allowing him to perceive what he might not have been able to as a normal human. The experiments also stopped the aging of his body, and he remains biologically twenty seven years old, despite the passing of time.

An extremely contemplative individual, Vincent spends considerable time observing and analyzing. This often leads him to strange conclusions, which frequently- perhaps also surprisingly- turn out right. This tendency to remove himself from situations often gives him a very objective view of things.

❖ weaknesses ❖

Vincent relies extremely heavily on guns- thus, he'd be very thrown off balance if disarmed. He isn't one for fist fights, and while his line of work may have led him to a few, they aren't his forte. Furthermore, Vincent's greatest strength is also his greatest weakness- the demons within. They are part of him, yet they are not entirely him. When they take control, the man can usually do little but wait to regain his senses. This berserk-like status means he can't direct them or strategize when they come into play. Their appearance essentially trades intelligence for power, which can be a double-edged sword. When he de-transforms, additionally, he is usually weakened, needing considerable sleep to regenerate his strength.

He also has a tendency to be passive. In fact, he sometimes removes himself so much from his surroundings and society in general that he loses touch with others. He endured a nightmarish existence for the duration of his sleep, which left him less mentally stable than before. He hides this quite well, however, and being in the Turks again got him onto more of a routine for repressing his emotions. However, that level of repression is by no means healthy.

Also, Vincent has an enormous guilt complex. He has moments where he blames himself for situations that have gone wrong, and can be obsessive about seeking atonement for past "sins". His tendency toward cryptic, often morbid, statements makes his point often misunderstood - he doesn't always say what he really means.

❖ history ❖

The son of one of ShinRa's scientists, Grimoire Valentine, Vincent also was employed at a young age by the company as a Turk. He was a dedicated worker, and became entrusted with important jobs as a result. It wasn't long before he was sent on a mission as a bodyguard, protecting the project of the prominent scientist, Hojo. It was through this assignment at the ShinRa manor that he became acquainted with the scientist Lucrecia Crescent. Vincent developed feelings for her, and thought that she initially seemed interested as well. All seemed on the verge of developing further, but a problem remained: Lucrecia was already involved with Hojo.

Trying to repress his feelings over this fact, Vincent simply performed his duty as ordered. He felt that Lucrecia's happiness mattered more than his own, and she seemed pleased enough with Hojo. But there were still plenty of moments he and Lucrecia would enjoy together, which deepened his admiration of her. There were also times when she opened up to him and showed that all was not so wonderful in her relationship with the increasingly psychotic Hojo. Vincent became her most trusted friend, through nothing more than being an excellent listener. Vincent and Lucrecia's relationship continued to grow despite the guilt they both felt over it. Things simply went farther and father between them... leading to her becoming pregnant with Vincent's child. She came to him frightened and confided this fact in him alone. Vincent swore himself to secrecy for her sake. Hojo could under no circumstances find out.

Unfortunately, Hojo had plans in store. He was deluded by this point, even so far as to believe the unborn child to be his son. Vincent soon learned of the intended experiments that Hojo pressured Lucrecia into. Unable to stand the thought of what they were doing, Vincent confronted Hojo. This had no effect, however, and the experiments proceeded. The tests began to take a toll on Lucrecia's health, and Vincent could only comfort her as she grew ill. Enraged, he confronted Hojo again, leading to the accidental revelation of Sephiroth's paternity.

The truth prompted Hojo to shoot and kill the Turk, and then perform an experiment to reanimate him. After the experiment Vincent partially retained his humanity... yet there were now things inside him, monsters with their own distinct presences. When Vincent discovered the "others," he was fearful. But there was nothing he could do. He was also now cursed with the guilt of not being able to save Lucrecia or Sephiroth.

When Hojo moved on to other projects, Vincent was to be put to rest like any other discarded side-experiment. This was done by placing him in a coffin located in the old crypt the mansion had been built on. Vincent was left alone with his demons, both literal and figurative.

It wasn't until decades later when the Turks Reno and Rude were sent on a mission to locate a supposed weapon locked away in the ShinRa manor. After a search through the mansion, they located Vincent, formerly one of theirs. It took a battle and then some talking for Vincent to decide that the best course of action was to return to work for them. He agreed only on the terms that his reinstatement was kept under secrecy, known only to the Turks. That way, he could better seek revenge on Hojo. There could be no better means of seeking that than from within the company. It also gave the Turks a new advantage against their enemies. Tseng and the others were able to confide in this veteran and rely on his skills.

Vincent had a few encounters against Avalanche, striking at them using his monster forms as the Turks' new secret weapon. He eventually learned of the truth about what had become of Sephiroth, and Avalanche's conflicts against him. This led Vincent to follow the group's actions closely, even stepping in to help them in the battle to kill Hojo. He provided no explanation to them for the mysterious assistance and returned to his responsibilities as a Turk. But by the time Meteor threatened their Template, Vincent again decided to ally with Avalanche. Aiding in the battle against his own son was a painful event, but necessary for that Template's wellbeing. This would come to haunt him, as well as the feelings regarding Lucrecia's fate. After the world was saved, Vincent continued to work for the Turks. One solo mission sent him back to the dreaded manor, but this time when he walked into the basement... he stepped out into a whole different Template.
